The Benefits of working with an IFS Therapist
What Is IFS?
Internal Family Systems is a non-pathologizing, experiential therapy that honors the many parts we carry as human beings.
IFS is both a therapeutic model and an intervention built around the concept of "parts" of the Self—an experience most people already recognize intuitively.
-
IFS welcomes all parts of the self without judgment. Through this process, clients access what IFS calls Self energy: a grounded, compassionate, and wise inner presence. From this place, it becomes possible to respond to life with clarity, curiosity, and care—rather than reactivity.
-
IFS works from a systems perspective, recognizing that healing does not occur in isolation. Our inner world is shaped by family systems, culture, relationships, and lived experience. Acknowledging these layers allows for more complete and lasting change.
-
IFS helps clients find relief from anxiety, depression, phobias, PTSD, C-PTSD, and addiction, as well as chronic inner conflict and persistent self-criticism.
-
IFS understands trauma as being carried by vulnerable parts that have been forced into hiding—often protected by strong, defensive parts. The work begins by understanding and engaging these protective parts, helping them feel safe enough to step back so that the vulnerable parts holding trauma can be accessed and unburdened. This process brings relief to the entire nervous system.
-
IFS follows the principle that slow is fast. The work unfolds at a pace guided by your internal system, ensuring that protective parts are never rushed or overwhelmed. Healing moves according to your own inner readiness.
-
Through IFS, clients learn to unblend from reactive parts and gently unburden wounded ones—moving toward a more Self-led way of living rooted in calm, clarity, and internal harmony.
